Bharatanatyam is the most popular of Indian classical dances. A structured dance form, it requires years of specialised training. It is recognized by its sculptural poses, rhythmic footwork, and intricate hand and eye movements. The costuming is also distinct. Due to its methodical nature of learning and rich cultural heritage, it appeals to all age groups and people from diverse backgrounds.
Dr. Vasumathi Prasad is an accomplished Bharatanatyam performer, choreographer and teacher. She trained under Padma Shri Smt. Chitra Visweswaran. Having taken part in her acclaimed productions, she has also given several performances in India, USA and UK. She focuses her efforts towards preserving the tradition and purity of the dance form while at the same time adapting and improvising within the limits of the style.
Classes take place Saturday mornings at the dance studio, Wise Campus, Stoke Gifford, Bristol. Students perform frequently at community and social events in Bristol, Birmingham and other parts of the UK.
Sri Srinivas Hirimagalur has been associated with PraNartana as Honorary Faculty over the years. A trained Bharatanatyam dancer, he has given several performances. With his passion and dedication, he continues to engage in this art form.
